The Birds (1963)

Director: Alfred Hitchcock
Writers: Daphne du Maurier(story) Evan Hunter(Screenplay)
Stars: Rod Taylor, Tippi Hendren, Jessica Tandy

A wealthy San francisco socialite a potential boyfriend.
Birds begin to attack and become more often.

This time the external threat is nature.

Some of the  important scenes in the film are:
When the birds attack at the birthday party
When the birds attack the house
When they escape in the car through the birds

The enemy are better equipped as there are more of them.

At the end of the film it ends a cliffhanger and suspense is used with the sound of silence as they drive through the birds, suspense is also used when the birds attack the cafe and again the sound of silence.

The scene where Tippi Hendren is ravaged by birds near he end of the movie took a week to shoot, attached by nylon threads so they couldn't get away.

In total there where 370 effect shots during the whole film, the final shot is a composite of 32 shots.

There is a sense of unending terror as the end doesn't end in the typical the end fashion, it ends with a cliffhanger which leaves us asking will they make it out alive.

After the premiere of The Birds Hitchcock manage to organise a further scare of putting speakers in the trees and as the audience come out the speakers played the flapping and squawking of birds which had worked.
During the film there isn't much music, a lot of silence is used as suspense which creates an uncomforting feeling for the audience.
